The connection methods described in this section are based on GVFS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GVFS. Via GVFS, the remote filesystem is mounted locally through FUSE. tramp uses internally this local mounted directory.
The communication with GVFS is implemented via D-Bus messages. Therefore, your GNU Emacs must have D-Bus integration, see D-Bus.
Both methods support the port number specification as
discussed above.
